Silence, Secrets, and Subterfuge: Why is Leeds City Council Hiding the Truth?
First and foremost, we want to say a massive thank you to our community. In the last four weeks alone, our posts have been viewed by over 210,000 people , with over 17,000 interactions —the vast majority coming from right here in the Leeds City Region. It’s rare for a small, local, not-for-profit sports club to see that kind of engagement. It sends a clear message. However, despite this overwhelming wave of support, Leeds City Council has remarkably claimed that there is "no

10 - 7 Morley Juniors V's Huddersfield
What a performance, what a team, We couldn't be prouder of our Junior team last night, who played a strong Huddersfield Otters Waterpolo Club . The warm up match was a mixed age group of our under 14s and under 16s, and whilst we had a much younger team, which included 2 under 12's and the majority of the remaining team were under 14s, we still managed to secure victory from a well drilled team in Huddersfield. We started the match slowly and went behind by a couple of goals.

Get the red pen out! ✍️🔴
"it would appear that the council have taken a leaf out of Donald Trumps play book as we have officially received the Council’s "investigation" into our hire fee complaint. To put it politely: we have some notes. We’ve spent the last 48 hours channel-hopping between "Confused" and "Entertained." We’ve now published a line-by-line breakdown of their response, debunking the myths and highlighting the "creative accounting" on display. It’s a bit like a movie review, except the m

Together Stronger: Why Playing a Team Sport is the Ultimate Life Hack
We all know we should exercise. We know we need to get our heart rates up, build muscle, and keep our bodies moving. But let’s be honest—going for a solo run on a rainy Tuesday or staring at a gym wall for an hour can feel like a chore. "This is where team sports change the game". When you join a squad, you aren’t just signing up for exercise; you are signing up for a masterclass in life skills, mental health, and human connection. Whether you are 12 years old or 60, trading

The Unseen Engine: Why Morley Water Polo is the Heartbeat of Yorkshire Sport
When people think of a water polo club, they usually picture the action in the water: the goals, the grueling swim sets, and the competitive matches. At Morley Water Polo Club, we are incredibly proud of our athletes and our competitive history. However, there is another story—one that often goes untold—about the infrastructure, the dedication, and the sheer volume of volunteer hours that keep the sport alive in our region. We don't just play the game; in many ways, we enable

The Engine of the Game: Mastering the Perfect Eggbeater Kick
If you ask any experienced water polo player what the most important skill in the game is, they probably won’t say shooting or passing. They’ll say legs. The "Eggbeater" kick is the foundation of everything we do in the pool. It’s what keeps you stable, lifts you high for a shot, and allows you to wrestle for position without sinking. Unlike swimming strokes, the eggbeater allows you to stay vertical and stationary while keeping your hands free to handle the ball. Whether you

A Message from our President regarding Club Fees and Centre Staff
Dear Members and Supporters, I am writing to provide a brief update regarding our ongoing discussions with Leeds Leisure concerning pool hire fees. We are working tirelessly to find a solution that not only ensures the financial sustainability of the club but also recognizes the significant social value we provide to the local community. Our goal remains c

We know that right now, the financial pressure on households is immense. The cost of living crisis is affecting everyone, from the grocery shop to the gas bill, and we understand that for some of our members, finding the money for training fees and club subscriptions is becoming increasingly difficult. We want to m

A Splash of Community: Why Morley Water Polo is More Than Just a Game
If you walk past the pool during a Morley Water Polo Club session, you’ll hear the familiar sounds of sport: the thrashing of water, the shrill blast of a whistle, and shouts of "Man up!" or "Pass!" On the surface, it looks like a group of people playing a very demanding physical game. But if you look deeper—past the chlorine and the competition—you will see something far more important at work. You will see a living, breathing engine of social value that has been serving the

The Pitch vs. The Pool: Why Water Polo Makes Football Look Like a Warm-up
Let’s start by kicking the elephant out of the room. Football (soccer) is the world’s most popular sport for a reason. It requires immense skill, tactical genius, and incredible cardiovascular fitness. Premier League players are running 10km+ per game. We get it. Respect where it’s due. But if we are having an honest conversation about raw physicality —about brute strength, relentless endurance, and the sheer toll a sport takes on the human body—football doesn't just take a b

The Ultimate Aquatic Workout: Unlocking the Incredible Health Benefits of Water Polo
Water polo often gets a reputation as one of the toughest sports on the planet. And let’s be honest—that reputation is entirely deserved. If you’ve ever watched a match, you’ve seen the explosive sprints, the physical battles for position, and the incredible sight of players launching themselves out of the water to fire a ball at goal. It looks exhausting because it is exhausting. But beneath the churning water and intense action lies one of the most comprehensive, full-body

The Black Line Blues: Why Water Polo is Infinitely Better Than Just Swimming
The Black Line Blues: Why Water Polo is Infinitely Better Than Just Swimming Let’s be honest. We all started as swimmers. We all did our time in the learn-to-swim lanes, mastering the doggy paddle and trying not to inhale half the pool. Swimming is a noble pursuit. It’s great cardio, it saves your life, and it gives you shoulders that make finding a suit jacket impossible. But there comes a time in every aquatic athlete's life when they have to ask themselves a serious questi

Pool Hire Fees - Missing in Action
We are writing to update members on the current status of our negotiations regarding pool hire charges. While we remain committed to finding a resolution, the Council’s conduct continues to be a source of significant frustration. We are grateful to have the strong support of Councillors Finnigan and Brown of the Morley Borough Independent Party, who are backing our fight for fairness. Additionally, we have held a productive meeting with our local MP’s office manager, who is n
