10 - 7 Morley Juniors V's Huddersfield

What a performance, what a team,

We couldn't be prouder of our Junior team last night, who played a strong Huddersfield Otters Waterpolo Club.

The warm up match was a mixed age group of our under 14s and under 16s, and whilst we had a much younger team, which included 2 under 12's and the majority of the remaining team were under 14s, we still managed to secure victory from a well drilled team in Huddersfield.

We started the match slowly and went behind by a couple of goals.

We should have won the first quarter, but our very own super Ref Nigel Sebell, known for his tan and John McEnroe wrist bands, has clearly forgotten the Phil Hill book of refereeing; by heavily penalising the Morley forwards in attack, who kept on getting reversed for standing or pushing.

However as we settled down, we started to dominate possesion, and the absolute work ethic & attitude of the team pulled us ahead.

We could have scored more, however our Junior super star goal scoring machine, left his glasses at home and missed two penalties. Clearly taking lessons of how not to shoot from the Men's B Team captain, that couldn't hit a barn door if he tried.

As we moved in to the last quarter, victory was never in doubt; Alex and Corey were solid in Defence.

Nothing were getting past these two well drilled machines.

Man of the match Oliver was sensational in goal, but also outfield as he scored some great goals and setting up several others.

Eliza secured the MVP nominated by Huddersfield and really excelled throughout the game.

She had lots of shots on target and she deserved a couple of goals for her efforts, but it wasn't to be this evening.

Max was solid upfront and was unlucky not to score 6 or 7 more goals. (Very unlucky indeed). He worked hard, and undoubtably will be one of the teams top goal scorers.

Tobi never gave up, getting stuck in with his tacking and making some awsome passes to set up goals. He's got a big heart.

Oli (just to confuse everyone, we have 2 Olivers that both play in net) and this Oliver also made some great saves, assertive tackles and showed signifficant improvement throughout the match.

Layla pushed up, making some great passes into the pit and taking a few shots, making the team proud.

Jemima following in her fathers waterpolo foot steps was on two majors in the first QTR, getting a thumbs up from her Dad. That's where the similarities end as unlike her fathers she was up and down the pool.

That only leaves our Captain Callum, who's work rate never falters, that tackles, passes and score goals. A first class performance that we can sometimes take for granted.

The performance was one of the best we've seen, and as we push on, we have a group of players that will fight for each other, put in their all and who will beat the opposition by pure grit and Morley heart and determination.
